London Congestion Charge Times and Days 2026
The London Congestion Charge zone covers central London and operates on a specific schedule. Knowing the exact times, days, and exceptions is essential — driving in the zone outside operating hours is free, and being fined for a time when the charge did not apply is grounds for appeal.
Fined outside operating hours?
If the PCN timestamp falls outside the charge period, you have a strong appeal.

The Congestion Charge applies 7:00am to 6:00pm, Monday to Friday, and 12:00pm to 6:00pm on weekends and bank holidays. It does not apply on Christmas Day (25 December) or between Christmas Day and New Year's Day (inclusive).

The daily charge is GBP 15. If you forget to pay, a PCN of GBP 160 is issued (reduced to GBP 80 if paid within 14 days).
Is the Congestion Charge the same as ULEZ?
No. The Congestion Charge covers a much smaller central London zone and applies during specific hours. ULEZ covers all of Greater London and operates 24/7. A non-compliant vehicle in central London during operating hours would need to pay both.
